"Can't Wait"
You’ve almost completed your Arrow of Light. There’s a few things yet to finish and cross over is a few months away.

We feel it is REAL IMPORTANT that you visit more than 1 or 2 Boy Scout troops, as each has a distinct personality, their own way of doing things. Finding a troop that matches your interests and personality is important; and one that challenges you as well. Getting in with the “right bunch of guys” can help you in scouting, in school and in life. (I know, now I sound like your Dad!)

Some troops are more indoor than out. Some are more car camping than backpacking. Some are more water skiing than snow skiing. You have to find a troop that will challenge you, support you and let you just have fun!

As for your parents (yes, they’re important too), they want you to be somewhere you can thrive, learn and mature. That doesn’t sound as much fun as camping, skiing and exploring caves, but it works out to be the same thing. At least with us it does. Tell your Den Leader about us and ask to have your whole Den visit us any week of the year.

As for the “fun part”: Outdoorsman and Arrow of Light, you need to have an activity or campout with a Boy Scout troop. And we have just the campout for you! The Troop 72 Annual Webelos Invitational; our annual late summer weekend program for Webelos Dens where you can earn Outdoorsman, but also can earn Readyman, Forester, Naturalist and Leave No Trace Cub Scout. And, if your Den joins us on one of our many conservation projects, we can help you earn the Cub Scout World Conservation Award. All planned by the Scouts, taught by the Scouts and even a “Court of Honor” campfire (yes, with awards) presented by the the Scouts.

As a Cub Scout, your parents and other Trained Adult Leaders planned and ran the program. As a Boy Scout, it will be you who will help plan and lead what the Troop does. Using the “patrol method,” you will learn leadership skills with the guidance and mentoring of Trained Adults. And then it will be you would will be the Trained Scout Leader, taking your Patrol on new adventures, teaching the new scouts “the ropes” and  showing them how things work in a Troop so they will in turn be the leaders of the Troop when their turn comes.

We look forward to seeing your and your Den at our next meeting. Any meeting! Anytime of the year, not just “cross over season.”
